Meet The Team

Sierra Nevada Water Polo

We’re a nonprofit organization committed to growing the sport of water polo for youth in the local region. Water polo is a unique team sport that combines the dual skills of swimming and ball handling, with play elements of hockey, basketball, and soccer. Water polo players can typically swim over 1.5 miles in a game! Physiologists have ranked the sport as one of the most strenuous activities of all. In 1991, water polo was quoted as the “Best overall sport in terms of physiological demands placed on the athlete,” by a panel of physiology experts from all over the U.S.(Ludovise).

Hi! My name is Alex Hartman and I am 20 years old! I’m originally from Mountain View, California, but I am in my Junior year at the University of Nevada, Reno. I am also a swimmer on the UNR women’s swim and dive team! I really enjoy coaching waterpolo as it heavily incorporates swimming, but instead of being an individual sport, it’s a team game!
